Google Responds: The Stem is the ‘L’

There’s been a bit of controversy around the Internet this morning as to whether or not Google forgot how to spell its own name in its new Valentine’s Day logo. It appears to read ‘Googe’, with no ‘L’ in sight.

Well now Google has responded to the claims of their failing to use spell-check. Their stance is that clearly the stem of the strawberry is the ‘L’ as it’s green like the ‘L’ in the standard Google logo. Make some sense, but I still don’t see how that should be interpreted by anyone as an ‘L’. If anything it looks like the extra curl that is on the top of some fancy ‘G’s.

Nice try Googe, but give us back our real ‘L’.

(my spell check just returned errors on all the ‘Googe’(s))

I'm not sure. If you look closely, the chocolate on the strawberry is in the shape of a heart. Could it be that the L is the strawberry (L stands for love) and the G is the chocolate drippings below it?

http://thepugetnews.com/2007/02/14/googles-obsc..., actually its a reference to Barnabe Googe, famous for saying:

"I did but see her passing by, and yet I love her till I die."

The logo is a reference to Debbie Googe from the band My Bloody Valentine. Riddle solved.

Thanks for all the responses, but I think I'm more confused now. Does anyone know for sure what Google is trying to do with the logo here, or maybe it's just all of the above?

I think everyone is looking a little too deeply into this. It's a logo, you know what it's supposed to say, and the regular logo will be back tomorrow. Take a chill pill and a getalife pill while you're at it.

I didn't know they made a getalife pill. I'll have to look into it. Do you take those with water? On an empty stomach?

I think the "l" is "entwined" with the loop of the "g" symbolizing... It is valentines day after all

So it says Googe or just a weird version of Google, who cares? Do people seriously have too much time on their hands to be complaining about that kinda stuff? Get a flipin life.

It is obvious that the stem is the L.

    End of.

Clearly the L didn'tn fit/was left out, and google made up some lame excuse, challenging us to interpret their googe erm goof. It says googe; it'sn that simple.

i think its funny that the losers who tell you to get a life are the ones who take the time to comment on your story. they need to stop being douchebags and get their own blogs.
