Google Punches Microsoft in the Kidney. Again.
Google did something today that they don’t normally do – they pre-announced the launch of a new product, Presentations for Google Docs & Spreadsheets. This application which will released this summer (online and free of course) has one major competitor: Microsoft’s PowerPoint.
This is the 2nd time in the past few days that Google has come at Microsoft. First, they spend $3.1 billion dollars on DoubleClick, outbidding Microsoft, and now they continue their assault on one of Microsoft’s bread-and-butter apps: Microsoft Office.
I just find it very odd that they would pre-announce a new application when they don’t normally do that. Are they attempting to go for Microsoft’s jugular? Are they pissed that Microsoft is calling for an Anti-trust investigation following the DoubleClick deal? Or did Google just want something to talk about at the Web 2.0 expo…as if just spending $3.1 billion in cash wasn’t enough?
