Kevin Rose Raises the White Flag
In the last post I questioned what, if anything, Digg could do to mend the HD-DVD Decryption Number situation… Well Digg founder Kevin Rose came up with a solution: toss up the white flag.
It is a smart move. It is also quite literally the only thing they could have done to try and alleviate the situation with the Digg users. There may be legal ramifications from the big guys (but can they really sue now that the information is readily in so many other places?..), but had Digg continued to fight the other way, against its users, it would have been the end. What is Digg after all without its users? It is absolutely nothing; a content site with no content.
So kudos to Digg for not selling out its users – but it also wasn’t that shocking or surprising of a decision in hindsight.
If you can’t beat ‘em…
(anyone else find it odd that this all unraveled on May Day, and had Digg yelling mayday?)
