Optimus Maximus: The $1,500 (Very Pretty) Keyboard

Close you eyes and imagine a computer keyboard where every individual key is its own stand-alone organic-LED screen. Now open your eyes and behold the Optimus Maximus.

Wow this thing is pretty. 113 completely customizable keys. Built-in SD card reader, 2 USB 2.0 ports. Each key has a resolution of 48×48 pixels. And each even has their own refresh rate (10 frames per second)!

Obviously we all want this. That is until we see the price. $1,564.37!

Wow. Reality sets in. For a keyboard!?

As Engadget points out, that’s $13.84 per key!

If you can afford to spend that much on a keyboard you should probably pre-order today. Only 200 will be initially available in December.

Me, I think I’ll hold out for this input device:

  • MG Siegler
I just checked the Logitech out, pretty slick.
  • engtech
I'm happy enough with my Logitech G15 I got for $50.

Blue LEDs for all the keys are good enough for me.k
