People Love Rumors: Microsoft Acquiring Yahoo?
People love rumors, and in the tech world they don’t get much bigger than this: Microsoft is supposedly in talks to acquire Yahoo. While it was the NY Post that first ran the story, quite a few sources have picked up on it now – and Yahoo’s stock is now up almost 20% in the past few hours…
What I really love about this is that Microsoft just tried to sick the anti-trust dogs on Google for the Double Click deal a few weeks ago…now they’re in talks to buy a company that would probably cost them $50 billion dollars!
I just can’t see this actually happening, it’s almost too big of a deal literally. It is very interesting though.
If you can’t beat ‘em, buy someone who can.

[UPDATE]: The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the talks have ended and that there will be no deal between the two companies right now.
This will likely hold true until 6 months from now when Google comes in at the last second and swipes another company both Microsoft and Yahoo were eyeing – at which point the talks will be back on.
