Blockbuster Finally Realizes They Should Probably Be in the Online Movie Business
Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer told a group today that they have agreements in place with all the major online movie distribution companies – two he included have yet to launch such a service: Best Buy, and Blockbuster.
I just don’t understand how or why Blockbuster has waited this long to enter the online movie realm. This is a company that does one thing: rent movies. When there is a huge rush of companies to be among the first to the online movie rental/selling space, Blockbuster is busy dragging its feet, apparently doing other things.
Yes their Total Access is great (seriously such a great deal that I still can’t believe it’s only $17.95), but it’s not the future – online distribution is. It’s good to hear that they’re apparently entering the market, but the fact that the word didn’t even come from them but from a studio executive is worrisome. How long will they wait to make their move?
Of course if this launches soon and is anything at all like the deal with Total Access, I’ll just shut up and enjoy it. Whatever you do Blockbuster please, PLEASE make your service Mac-compatible (*cough* Netflix, Amazon *cough*).
