Google’s GDrive: The Platypus is Still Alive!
Ah yes. Months after losing the scent of the Platypus, we appear to be back on the trail of the elusive creature. I’m speaking of course of Google’s rumored online storage service, Gdrive aka “Platypus”. If the online application tracker Wakoopa is to be believed, it’s not only still very much alive and kicking (internally at Google), it’s even getting routine upgrades.
Many of us have been waiting for some kind of official word on such a service for a very long time now. Yahoo rolls out Unlimited Email, AOL is looking to do the same, Microsoft releases its online storage option, and still Google remains silent. Some have wondered if maybe Gdrive was only ever meant to be an internal tool for Google, but as Googling Google notes, there have been indications that it has its own marketing team – something an internal service would have no need for.
At least we know the service is still very much alive, but the question remains: when (if ever) will it be released out of captivity? I would still guess that Google is working towards towards a public release. After all, they presumably have more storage than either Yahoo or AOL – and less email users – and yet, they still have not rolled out an unlimited Gmail. They must be saving all that storage for something. Right?
