Has the Blockbuster/Blu-ray Deal Already Killed HD-DVD?
Though it’s just from a “tipster”, Gizmodo is reporting that since Blockbuster announced a couple days ago that they would only be stocking Blu-ray discs in their stores, sales of HD-DVD players have grinded to a halt – with many people even canceling orders!
As I said two days ago, I thought this announcement was a huge deal simply from a public perception standpoint – and if this news is true it would definitely speak to that. The war still isn’t over – remember that just last week HD-DVD was claiming a major sales win over its Blu brethren. But this Blockbuster thing is bigger than that – another one of these announcements could potentially seal a path to victory.
Now if we could just get some back catalogue movies on either format finally, I could finally get around to choosing sides. It would also definitely help if Microsoft jumped ship and released a Blu-ray add-on for the 360…
