An OS X Bond with ZFS, New iPhone Ad, No New iMacs, and Windows Application Support Built-In?

As the reports are just flying in faster then I could possibly write a post about each of them (nor would I want to for some), I’ll just go ahead and give a round up of some of the Apple news/rumors today:

  • The big one is obviously Sun Microsystem’s Jonathan Schwartz seeming to upstage the man known as Jobs by announcing days early (before WWDC) that Apple will be switching over to its ZFS files structure as the default for the new OS X.

While there is no doubting what Schwartz said, some people are wondering if he just poorly phrased his wording. After all, it’s been known for a while that OS X Leopard would at least support ZFS – but switching the entire default system over to that is a big deal.

  • Next we have another new official iPhone ad from Apple – already. This one showcases the fact that using Safari on the iPhone is the same experience as using it on a computer – minus the whole Multi-touch thing.

The is already the 4th official ad in just a few days time. Apple’s marketing department really wants to sell this iPhone I guess. At least we know they’re proud of it.

Bonus points for this being on the new YouTube player – this thing looks very nice, love the embed button at the end, but I could see the thumbnails getting annoying.

  • Next is that according to AppleInsider, who is usually pretty good with such things, those new, sleek iMacs won’t be debuting at WWDC. Word is that Apple simply wants to get more mileage out of the old ones first, which are still selling briskly. We can look for the new iMacs toward the end of the year, but the focus of WWDC should be primarily on the new OS X and it’s “secret” features.
  • Which leads to the final note – which is really more conjecture than even rumor at this point. CrunchNotes seems to think that OS X Leopard could have the ability to run Windows applications built into it.

We’ve all heard this type of rumor on and off. It certainly seems to be possible, but would a certain Mr. Jobs and a certain Mr. Gates – now best of friends – but okay with such a thing?
