Stop Me If You’ve Heard This One Before: Yahoo To Buy Facebook?
Giving the explosion of buzz around Facebook recently, it shouldn’t really come as any surprise that the acquisition rumors are starting up again. As usual the name right at the top of the list, Yahoo.
I don’t know how much credibility I’d put into this one. The rumor, “emanating from Yahoo”, could be little more than moans and groans from within that they didn’t step and seal the deal when they had the chance. The fact that Guardian still thinks Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is holding out for only $2 billion, doesn’t help the report either. I think it’s a safe bet that if Facebook even gave a hint that they would hear offers at this point, they’d probably be looking for something more like $5 billion now.
But that’s the other thing – I’m still thinking Facebook has no intention of selling to anyone at this point. They are the toast of the town at the moment (’the town’ being the Internet) and I think the overwhelming support they’ve already received for their Platform initiative has given them the confidence they needed to hang on and go-it-alone…all the way to the IPO multi-billions.
Of course Google upon hearing this rumor might be busy stuffing $10 billion in unmarked bills into a gym bag…
