Apple’s iPhone-Specific Movie Trailers Page

In a few of its iPhone ads, Apple touts the iPhone’s Safari as being able to browse the “real” Internet; while this is true, Apple also apparently thinks it important enough to build sites specifically for the iPhone’s small screen as they’ve launched a special iPhone-only version of their movie trailers page.

On a regular browser the new URL (http://www.apple.com/trailers/iphone) will simply forward you to the regular trailers page, but viewing it on an iPhone gives you access to a more streamlined site that takes away all the resolution options and instead gives you the trailer right on the page which can be played simply by hitting a blue play button in the corner. I watched The Bourne Ultimatum trailer and it looks great; just like with movies and TV shows on the iPhone you can zoom in for a full screen version or get the standard ratio when you zoom back out.

While this makes a lot of sense for Apple to do for something like a movie trailer page where iPhone users simply don’t need all the various HD resolution options, I’m sure we’re going to start seeing a lot more of these iPhone-specific web pages for a multitude of sites to give users a better experience.

Yes, the iPhone can browse the real web, but on such a small screen it can be difficult to browse sites with a ton of content; some simplicity may actually be welcomed by many users including yours truly.
