Is it just me or do rumors just seem to be getting more outlandish? It’s hard to top the Google buying Apple rumor from last month, but now an analyst is claiming that Microsoft – and Steve Ballmer specifically – wants to offer $6 billion to buy Facebook. Saying the details are scarce here would be giving the report way too much credit simply by using the word “details” in that sentence.

Here’s some quick thoughts on why this won’t happen:
1) There is so much Facebook IPO hype right now that even Facebook must be buying into it – if not perpetuating it.
2) If Facebook were to sell does anyone really think it would be to Microsoft?
3) Developers! Developers! Developers! Developers!
