No Beatles to iTunes on the 5th? I Say Ignore the Man Behind the Curtain
You’ve probably read the report now claiming that The Beatles will not be coming to Apple’s iTunes next Wednesday, I have one thought on this: disinformation.
If Apple isn’t planning on announcing The Beatles on Wednesday, why oh why would they use the invite that they did with the tagline “The Beat Goes On“. Sure, they could be referring to Sonny & Cher as some have joked, but they’re not. Steve Jobs is a huge Beatles fan, he makes no secret of that; if he’s going to give the okay to an invite that has what are essentially The Beatles’ last words on it, he’s going to deliver The Beatles to us.
John Lennon’s catalog came to iTunes a couple weeks ago, Ringo Starr’s went up yesterday, I’m guessing that George Harrison’s may make an appearance on Tuesday, the eve of the event. Paul McCartney’s music has been right in the middle of this, being hyped on iTunes with at least one banner for the past few weeks. It all just makes sense.
So I say pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, the ever-anonymous source. Steve Jobs loves to kill at these events, to exceed expectations. If everyone is expecting The Beatles arrival, and then it comes, he fails to WOW us. He’d get a nice round of applause, but what Jobs yearns for is gasps. Those magic moments.
This would all be one hell of a coincidence. I don’t buy it. But I will be buying The Beatles – on Wednesday – on iTunes. I’ve got a feeling.
