BuzzTracker Lands on BuzzTracker’s Main Page Thanks to Yahoo Purchase

Yahoo bought the news aggregator BuzzTracker today for about $5 million – a pretty small tech purchase in terms of money, but not surprisingly it’s getting a lot of buzz (which this post is of course perpetuating). It also happens to be one of the top stories on BuzzTracker’s own main page.

Quite a few people seem interested in this for a couple of reasons; first, because it’s a Yahoo purchase, and everyone seems to hang on everything Yahoo does these days to see how they plan on righting the ship. And second, as several have noted, it’s interesting that Yahoo would go for the relatively small BuzzTracker as opposed to a larger one like TechMeme. TechMeme is of course only for tech news, so maybe Yahoo wanted a broader range, but there are other sites like Megite and Sphere, which do that and are also bigger than BuzzTracker.

Still, BuzzTracker is a nice looking site and does seem to work pretty well. If Yahoo actually utilizes it (and it seems they plan to for Yahoo News), there is some potential for it to take off.

A very good point Michael. Completely forgot. I assume in a deal for TechMeme you'd get the entire package.

techmeme is technology, but it also has sister sites, Memorandum (politics), WeSmirch (showbiz gossip), and BallBug (Major League Baseball.)
