Google + Jotspot = Google Wiki, Google Moving Beyond Microsoft Office

Word on the street is that Google is gearing up to finally launch its PowerPoint-rival, “Presentations”, next week at the Office 2.0 Conference, but much more interesting is the rumor that they will also launch a new product to be called ‘Google Wiki’, based off of JotSpot, the company they purchased about a year ago.

Apparently in the Google Blogoscroped forum, someone noticed that if you append ?service=jotspot onto your Google Applications login you are taken to a very interesting page with the following message (for my site at least):

Service not available

This service is not enabled for parislemon.com. If you believe this is an error, please contact your domain administrator or try again with the following link.

Lest you think this is a typical error page, appending on anything else takes you to Google’s regular generic ‘bad request’ page. Oh – and you might also notice the pixelated logo in the upper left that reads ‘Google Wiki on the service=jotspot page…

I’m glad Google is stepping outside of the typical “Office” framework and creating an app that is perfectly geared towards what they are doing – an online Office suite. An offline Wiki app would be absolutely pointless.
