@BW – I think those are the good calls and the safe bets, anything else would be icing on the cake.

@louis – I think a lot of people are in the same boat – meaning we all have old(er) iPods saw the flurry of improvements seemingly every month for a while, and now it’s been nothing major for a little bit. I think if it’s a big leap forward, say to touchscreen, a lot of folks may make the jump and upgrade.

I’m actually looking forward to this announcement. I want to be cynical and continue to hold out, but my 60 GB iPod Photo (3G?) keeps trying to die, and I’m a little tired of “dropping it to fix it”.

Our household also has a 10 GB iPod (2G) sitting in some closet somewhere, an iPod Shuffle Rev. 1 and an iPod Shuffle Rev. 2 (both of which get good use)

Ummm… no radio. Hard drives on the traditional iPod model which transitions to a touch screen interface ala the iPhone. Flash RAM (4 and 8 GB) on revised nano with revised interface.

Ha ha yeah, I'm in the same boat.

I currently own:

iPod (4th Gen) 40 GB
iPod Shuffle
iPod Nano
iPhone

At other times I've also owned the original iPod Shuffle and an iPod Mini.

Luckily on the Nano I have the trade-in option at Best Buy, so you can bet I'll be trading that bad boy in for one of the new Nanos - of course I'm assuming it will be another winner and not just a short fat iPod Nano.

How many iPods do you own? I know you have the iPhone…

Right now between my wife and I, we have four iPods – two shuffles, a Nano and an iPod Video. If this new iPod is essentially an “iPhone without the phone” I’m going to be seriously tempted to get a fifth…. argh!
