Platypus Lives! Google’s Gdrive Surfaces Again

We’re mere hours away from yet another hype-filled Apple even, and yet the rumor I find myself really excited about is the Gdrive aka “Platypus” rumor that has reared its head yet again. This time Tony Ruscoe of Google Blogoscoped (who is great at finding hidden tidbits in Google’s code by the way) stumbled upon an option in the code for Google Apps to “disable Gdrive”.

As Tony notes, this could just be for internal Google employees who we know use Gdrive on their own systems internally, but with Google gearing up for a big Google Apps push in the next week or so with Presentations and very likely Google Wiki, could they go for the trifecta and announce Gdrive as well?

Probably not too likely still in the very near term, but I’m absolutely certain there is some reason Google is hoarding all of its storage space while Yahoo and others like AOL are giving unlimited amounts of it away for free…
