Propeller: No Domain-less Death for Netscape
As you’ve no doubt heard by now, Netscape – the social news site – was evicted from Netscape – the domain name – in an apparent move to placate old Netscape users/fans who for some reason apparently wanted another cluttered landing page in their life. But today they’ve announced that they will not be dying a domain-less death. Instead they will be born anew as Propeller to be found at – you guessed it, propeller.com (not up yet).
I like the new name, like the logo, though I would lose the gradient reflection – we need some new design ideas around these parts (the web). It’s good to see Netscape, the social news site, living on, not just because I have quite a few friends and colleagues associated with it (I am not), but because I still think social media in this realm still has a long way to go – and it may not reach it’s pinnacle if it’s just being propelled by one site, even if it’s a great one, Digg.
