Steve Jobs: One (Hundred Dollar) Rebates To Rule Them All!
Apple is deciding to do right by us. Steve Jobs announced in a letter on Apple’s website today that Apple would be giving all early-adopters (those who bought before the $200 price break) of the iPhone, $100 worth of credits for use at Apple Stores (both online and brick and mortar).
Smart move by Apple not only because it will please some (though surely not all) of the angry shoppers, but also because this $100 credit will undoubtedly be used towards another Apple product worth over $100 – like say a new Nano at $150 – or in my case in a few months a new MacBook Pro. No word on if the credit will work for iTunes purchases, but if it did that would just be another $100 worth of material that will keep users committed to iTunes and Apple.
To any early adopter who is still angry with Apple over the price drop (and as I noted yesterday, I am not at all, but will gladly accept the credit), I would just ask how many of you would have paid $100 to get a 10-week exclusive on the iPhone during the frenzy of the launch? I bet a lot of you would, especially the day 1 purchasers.
