Big Media Eyeing Digg Purchase at $300 Million?
Valleywag has a hot new rumor: Digg is supposedly close to an announcement that it has sold to a big media player for somewhere around $300 million dollars. The purchasing party is thought to be a more traditional media company, ruling out the usual suspects of Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft – Digg’s advertising partner. Valleywag speculates that it could be The New York Times or The Washington Post.
Even if nothing comes of this rumor you can be sure that a Digg acquisition is going to be one of the hot rumors over the next year or so – the much-hyped companies that fulfill one half of these great rumors are simply selling like hotcakes these days. Digg is certainly near the top of what’s left and you can bet the bigwigs see those ‘Digg This’ button everywhere they go on the Internet.
