Google Reader Adds Personalized Feed Recommendations, Drag-and-Drop Folder Ordering
Google Reader has just rolled out two great new features. The first is ‘Recommendations’ which you’ll now see when you click on the ‘Discover’ link next to ‘Add subscription’. As you might guess, this will give you a list of feeds Google thinks you might like based on the feeds you already subscribe to as well as your Web History (if you let Google record that obviously).
These recommendations will be especially helpful to those who are relatively new to RSS feeds and don’t know with which ones to begin. It’s easily one of the questions I get asked the most “what feeds should I subscribe to?”. RSS seems on the verge of really taking off in this next year, this should only help that along. At just a quick glance at the recommendations for me I’ve already picked up 2 new feeds.
The other new feature is drag and drop ability within for feeds and folders (not individual feed items though). This will allow you to easily reorganize and prioritize your feeds in a particular folder as well as move around those folders themselves which is something I will REALLY find handy as I’ve resorted to using naming schemes such as ‘Aimportant’ to make sure that is at the top of my list, etc.
Great new features, now where are our Google Reader-wide statistics for ‘Most Starred’, ‘Most Shared’, and ‘Most Read’ so things can really start getting interesting?
