MySpace To Finally Get a Redesign?

I’ve made it pretty clear in the past that I think MySpace is the ugliest major site on the Internet (to quote myself : “designed by someone who it looks like they simply spilled coffee over their keyboard and as they blotted it up pumped out MySpace”). Obviously a lot of the ugliness falls on the fact that they let their users basically customize anything they want on their profiles and thanks to a mixture of not knowing HTML/CSS and having bad tastes, the results are often horrifying. Still, even the main page, despite several subtle tweaks over the past couple years, is ugly as hell. Forget “web 2.0″, MySpace looks like “web 0.5″ – but that could be about to change.

According to Valleywag, MySpace is pushing to get Connected Ventured cofounder Zach Klein – the guy who designed Vimeo – to completely overhaul their site design. This would be a very a very smart move by MySpace. Image, while not everything, is very important on the web. Yes, Facebook does a number of things better than MySpace, but the average user probably won’t know that by just going to the homepage and signing up – they’ll simply see that Facebook looks a hell of a lot nicer.

MySpace is still the queen bee, but without some plastic surgery some users might start switching over for no other reason than they want a newer, hotter bride.

I've been wondering when they were going to finally spruce things up a bit. The site's worth millions and it's been around for years, yet it really hasn't changed since the beginning. They updated a few pages recently, like the picture upload page and the personal home page (which knocks off Facebook), but outside of that, this has been by the far the ugliest site I visit regularly for a good couple years now. I'm glad SOMETHING's finally being done about it.

@iamthegamer - try worth BILLIONS. if Facebook is worth $25 billion (which is laughable right now by most standards, but still what Microsoft basically paids for their percentage), MySpace has to at this point be worth more given the # of users edge it still has.

But yes, point taken, the site is ugly as all hell. It's no real surprise they are going to try and emulate Facebook's looks, but it is surprising as you said that it has taken them this long!
