News Corp Diggs Revision3?
A new day brings a new News Corp. web acquisition rumor – this time: Digg.
CNET actually wrote about this fairly obvious follow-up rumor after Digg’s deal with The Wall Street Journal (which News Corp recently agreed to purchase amid much controversy) a few weeks ago, but now Valleywag is sayings that they’re hearing more specifics on such a deal – including a $340 million dollar price and a stake in Revision3, the online video channel started up by Jay Adelson and Kevin Rose.
Valleywag’s rumor goes so far as to speculate that News Corp new Fox Business Network (which mentioned me the other day
) wants Kevin Rose to be their lead in covering the CES convention next year. That’s a pretty detailed rumor – which means it’s either entirely true or complete BS.
I still have the feeling that Digg is going to sell at some point in the coming months, and a deal also involving Revision3 – which I think both Adelson and Rose know has the absolutely huge potential, moreso than Digg – could certainly increase the likelihood of a deal, especially if it’s just a minority stake in the company and they remain in control.
News Corp had the foresight to scoop up MySpace at the absolute bargain price of $580 million before it exploded in value (today it’d be worth likely double-digit billions), they could be on the same track with Revision3 as web-based video content is on the verge of exploding.
Digg certainly seems infatuated enough with their Wall Street Journal deal – not only are they keeping the graphic reminding everyone about it in the right column, but at least one story a day about the deal seems to hit the front page of Digg still. Are they sucking up to their potential new suitors?
Just imagine Diggnation on Fox (okay, more likely on MySpace).
