Pinpoint Locations on Google Maps

Google has yet another great update for Google Maps today: the ability to move location markers manually to showcase where a location actually is. If you’ve used any online mapping service you’ve no doubt run into the siutation where the address you input takes you to the area around the location you want, but not exactly on it – maybe its entrance is just off an alleyway or maybe you live in a huge complex and want to show someone your exact location within it, etc. Now you can physically move that green arrow marker in Google Maps to pinpoint the exact location.

You can also use this update to help Google Maps grow even better overall as they are letting users manually move location markers for businesses and save them. Realizing this could lead to some shady people doing some shady things (map tampering!), Google will also have a ‘Show Original’ link just in case the new area is way off from where it should be.

This is yet again another subtle feature that make what is in my opinion the best online mapping service even better. I wonder how long it is until you can click on any area of a map and be able to pull up the data about what is there? That would be my next wish.
