Apple Patent Reveals Work on Touch-Screen Mobile Gaming and More Advanced Multi-Touch

A newly revealed patent from late last year shows that Apple is working on a way to let iPhone and iPod users play games while still be able to control the devices other functions. More specifically Apple appears to be working on a way to use the touchscreen to control two apps at the same time.

Hence, a person can use the same input area (e.g., a top surface or plane of a physical input device such as a touch screen) to multitask. In other words, the person can, for example, play a game and exercise control over another application (e.g., media playback application) using the same input area.

This is significant for two reasons. First, it shows that Apple is definitely working on some innovative games that take advantage of the touchscreen. Second, it shows that Apple is delving deeper into the world of Multi-touch, a technology which looks to have very large impact over the next decade in computing.

@betrand - totally agree. people kind of laughed when the Nintendo DS came out, but now it's proven to be a great gaming device thanks in large part to its touch features - if Apple can utilize similar things for the iPod Touch and iPhone, the sky could be the limit for handheld gaming.

I appreciate you spreading the news to your readers in French. I've been thinking about putting a translation tool on my site, do you find those things generally work decently or do they just muck it up?
  • bertrand
@mg siegler. I'm french so I can write in French, but the translation tool needs you to be able to write in french too, because there made so many mistakes. French to english or english to french is a big mess.
Everybody know that the french speaks only french that's why sometims I use english blogs to create french content on my blog.

I posted on my french blog something about Intuilab (it's like Microsfot surface) Bill Gates visited them 2 years ago..

Touch screen will have a great future

@betrand - thanks, I put in a Google translator tool that I've heard good things about, let me know if it's any good or a complete waste of time.

    appreciate it.

Agreed on multi-touch technology, we're going to be hearing a lot more from it over the next decade.

well all I can propose is to stop this discussion in your comments area, it will be easier and start talking by mail...
You can try to translate one of your past post (!!!) in french and sent it to me by mail to compare...but I know that sometimes in french it's not good at all.

I'm sending you my email to mgaltparislemon.com
