Has Google Forgotten To Secure Knol.com In Their Quest To Take Over the World?

Obviously a lot has been made over the past 12+ hours about Google’s Knol project (aka Monetized, Accountable Wikipedia), but has Google even bothered to secure knol.com? A visit to that address right now takes me to a German Dutch site – one having nothing to do with Google’s Knol project. It would seem to me that if Google really does want this to be the most widely used information source in the world, they should probably secure the .com domain for it, because who wants to type in knol.google.com everytime they are looking for something?

Of course this also points back to the point I brought up last night – just how many people get to Wikipedia via a Google Search – Nick Carr today has more on just how powerful Wikipedia has become in Google searches. Maybe Google is simply hoping most people will get to Knol via a Google search – or, probably more likely, the domain just hasn’t been transfered over yet…

    knol.com is indeed a dutch website, selling all kinds of cleaning machines for private, business and industrial usage. Ever wondered what happens to a site like this when google only mentions the name ? As seen on their homepage they are quite happy with all the hits ;)

    @anon - I didn't take away from that announcement that Knol was a codename, maybe I'm wrong though - it is odd that they've yet to wrap up the dot com for it. I don't know about Gpedia though...

    @patrick s - yeah no doubt!

    Knol.com says they won't sell their domain. I wonder how long it will take before they sell to Google. But they will sell eventually, I'm sure about that.
