Technorati Returns To Its Roots, Percolates
According to TechCrunch, Technorati, a name once nearly synonymous with the blogosphere that has in the past year come under increased scrutiny from that very same blogosphere – is relaunching today. With its new leadership now firmly in place, they aim to return to their roots and serve the blogosphere as they once did. Technorati themselves already have 3 blog posts on the relaunch – they’re clearly excited about it.
Mike Arrington also talks of a new ‘Today In Photos’ section, but as of yet I cannot find it on the site – perhaps that hasn’t been rolled out live yet. Also of note is that the link for WTF, Technorati’s strangely-named Digg-esque area, still works but I see no way to get to the area from the newly designed pages.
Overall Technorati seems to be saying all the right things (in their multiple posts) and at first glance the site already looks much more useful. I’ve stuck by using the service all these past months while quite a few others turned away, but I was noticing a real problem with spam blogs being counted as legit links – something I can only hope they remedy with their renewed focus.
[UPDATE]: As Dorion (VP of Engineering for Technorati) points out in the comments, the ‘Today in Photos’ section can be found in the new larger section of the footer (which I actually overlooked because I thought it was an ad section – happy to see it’s not). He also notes that these updates are “just part of the beginning” – so stay tuned.
[UPDATE 2]: Ian Kallen, the leader of the Core Services engineering group at Technorati, posted on his personal blog a quote from me about giving some of the smaller blogs the spotlight every once in a while – and he says percolator will help do just that:
…we have put a stake in the ground; we’re going to serve bloggers across the power curve spectrum who are producing quality posts and acquiring attention from other bloggers as well as identify where the other attention magnets are by enabling an application that highlights them.
Great to know they are listening, looking forward to seeing the results.
