Two iPhone Product Refreshes in 2008?

The same report that suggests the Apple TV 2 might not come out until the latter half of 2008, also suggest that the iPhone could see not one, but two updates in 2008. The first, due early on would be a simple flash memory upgrade – likely meaning that the iPhone would double it’s memory to 16GB to match it’s iPod Touch counterpart. The 2nd update would of course be the 3G update, which the report suggests is in its “final design phase” already.

If true these reports are kind of confusing as well and make AT&T’s pre-announcement of the 3G iPhone look even worse. If you know a 3G version of the iPhone is coming in a few months, who in their right mind would buy an updated version of the EDGE-based iPhone? It would seem that Apple is either banking on the ignorance of certain consumers or has no real plans to release the 3G iPhone until the very end of 2008 – if even then.

While this and the Apple TV update of course very much fall into the rumor category, both are nevertheless disappointing to hear as we draw closer to MacWorld.
