Blockbuster Online? More Like Blockbuster Offline.
As if they didn’t have enough to worry about, Blockbuster’s online wing aptly named Blockbuster Online is currently down and has been for quite some time. While the notice on the site reads:

We’re sorry, BLOCKBUSTER.com is temporarily unavailable while we make some changes to the site. We’re working hard to bring you an ever better BLOCKBUSTER Online experience. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Check back soon!
Reuters is reporting that the site was actually experiencing a plethora of “system” problems and had to be taken down – so don’t hold your breath that these “changes” will actually be upgrades to the service.
We’re almost a week away from Apple’s iTunes Movie Rental service launch, Netflix is gearing up for a big living room push later this year, and Amazon is already there on the TiVo. Yeah, I’d say Blockbuster is in trouble and their service being down probably isn’t the solution.
[UPDATE 1:45AM Pacific]: It’s a miracle, Blockbuster Offline has finally magically transformed back into Blockbuster Online! No explanation of the problem anywhere to be seen and it would appear that NO movies shipped out while it was down for the entire day. Blockbuster is done – they should sell the name, at this rate it might end up being worth more than the actual company.
