‘MacBook Air’ or ‘MacBook Error’?

After I just got finished saying I wouldn’t update until Monday, I naturally feel compelled to write about the rumored official name for the new ‘Slim MacBook‘ or ‘MacBook Nano’ – as I’m about two blocks away from the Moscone center (where MacWorld will be next week).

‘MacBook Air’ certainly seems plausible to me given what Apple is trying to go for with the device (ultra-portability and the ‘there’s something in the air’ MacWorld marketing), but doesn’t it seem a little too close to sounding like ‘MacBook Error’? ‘Error’ is probably not the name you want to conjure up with a new computer.

“Light as air” puts a nice image in the mind and emphasizes one of the machine’s supposed strengths – but wouldn’t Apple be wise here to stick with a branding that is working well by continuing the ‘Nano’ name or maybe even pulling out the old standard ‘Mini’? Perhaps they are saving those potential names for one of their other rumored-to-be-coming-in-2008 mobile computing devices.

‘Air’ might be an ‘Error’, but it is Apple so if they do go with that, it’ll no doubt fly. I plan on walking over to Moscone tomorrow to see if I can get a peek at anything.

Air or Error? And Pro for prostitutes in MacBook Pro? OMG maybe you're on to something.

Well seeing as 'pro' sounds nothing like 'prostitutes' - not even the common 'pro' part sounds the same - your point is off.

My point however has been further substantiated by two different conversations so far in which I've verbally used the phrase 'macbook air' and both people assumed I was talking about a 'macbook error'.
