Writer Works For Wired Who Knows A Guy Who Saw the MacBook Thin

Wired is reporting that they’ve spoken with an Apple insider (not to be confused with the Apple rumor site AppleInsider) who has seen with his or her own two eyes the new ‘MacBook Air’ (or ‘MacBook Nano’, ‘MacBook Slim’, etc…). “It’s unbelievably thin,” said the source.

While the direct quote may not exactly be Earth-shattering – the design details are pretty interesting. Supposedly it has a teardrop-shaped profile when closed – which makes me think of Dell’s m1330 laptop – and might actually make some sense when you think about it. Almost all desktop keyboards are raised on the far end for better ergonomics, but laptop keyboards have been traditionally flat when place flatly on a table. A teardrop-shaped design in which the bottom slightly curves down towards the end of the keyboard at the bottom might make for a better typing experience while using the device on a flat surface.

The device is also said to be made of mostly aluminum and glass with an emphasis on black and silver which would give it a look a feel no doubt similar to both the new iMacs and also the iPhones. Wired did some quick, basic mockups which appear to draw inspiration from the iMac as well as a combo of Apple’s new-ish wireless and wired desktop keyboards – certainly not a bad guess.
