The Writer’s Strike Kills The Golden Globes
The Hollywood Writer’s Strike appears to have another victim: The Golden Globes. The awards show was supposed to take place this coming Sunday, but seeing as they have no writers available to write those not-so-witty presenter jokes they will be cancelling the event and now instead be holding a press conference to announce the winners. A press conference – talk about Hollywood style.
Once again the real loser here is NBC (how many times have ‘NBC’ and ‘loser’ been used in the same sentence the past few months?) as they were to be the ones to broadcast the event usually seen as the “more fun” Oscars. Instead they’ll apparently be broadcasting the press conference then have some crappy retrospectives and an “Access Hollywood” style Golden Globes party show. Lame.
I’ve never been a huge Golden Globes guy (I prefer the Academy Awards myself), but I think it’s pretty clear this writers strike has to end. We’re now being forced to watch press conferences on prime time television. I will be spending that evening watching some content online, maybe Hollywood should take note of that.
