16 GB iPhone To Launch As 3G Holdouts Continue to Wait?
Engadget has received a couple tips indicating that a new 16 GB iPhone may be just around the corner. Both claim to be from within AT&T (rather than the tight ship Apple) and say we could see the new upgrades either this week or next.
While certainly a 16 GB iPhone makes sense given that there has been a 16 GB iPod Touch since its launch, a February launch of such a revision would seem to indicate that the 3G iPhone release is still a ways off. Some had been hoping to see it as soon as this spring, but later summer/fall or perhaps even winter may seem more likely if Apple is just now launching a new version of the 1st generation.
Of course Apple could also make the 3G iPhone the ‘Pro’ version at a higher price point while keeping the current inventory at their lower levels.
[UPDATE]: Yep, today brings the 16 GB iPhone AND a 32 GB iPod Touch. Both will cost $499 leaving the 8 GB iPhone at $399 while the 16 GB iPod Touch remains $399 and the 8 GB one comes in at $299.
I love that the iPod Touch now has just about as much storage as my 4th generation regular iPod. When these things go up to 64 GB I may just have to get one to store all my music on.
