Blockbuster CEO probably loves Big Momma’s House 2
A recent interview by paidContent of Jim Keyes, the CEO of Blockbuster, exposed that he is confused by all the success Netflix has had.
Wired pulled out the best line of the interview and has a great zinger at the end:
Equally bewildering to Mr. Keyes is the emphasis on catalog size. Why would anyone want to watch anything other than new releases, he wonders.
“I don’t care how many movies are available to me. As my personal taste as a customer, I want to watch the new stuff so whether we have 10,000 movies or 200 movies doesn’t matter if I don’t want to see any of the movies that we have . . . our assortment is heavily weighted toward newer releases and mainstream staple titles.”
Clearly the guy’s not a cinephile.
It’s a good thing then the Blockbuster spent millions launching its own copycat business.
I love that the guy running a company that is supposed to be all about movies clearly cares much more about money than movies. Some people might try to say that’s a good thing, but look at how Blockbuster has done financially recently. Not good.
Put a fork in em.
