Snow Leopard: Twitterverse abuzz with latest Live Search image

Get out the tinfoil hats! This is somewhat humorous, but I’m betting MSFT just thought it was a pretty animal, like LiveSide’s first instinct. And it is. I like writing about Snow Leopard just to look for more pictures of the animal.

Update: I didn’t realize CNET’s Ina Fried would go off the deep end with this:

But another crazy thought crossed my mind. What if Microsoft has landed a deal to make Live Search the default in the next version of the Mac OS. For a long time now, Apple’s Safari has had a Google search bar built-in. I don’t know how much traffic that generates for the search giant, but it would seem to be at least as significant as some of the PC deals that Microsoft is paying good money to get.

Obvious animosities aside, mightn’t a deal make sense. Microsoft has talked about needing to spend some money to boost Live Search share.

Uh, you should have stopped at “But” Ina. Forget for a second that it’s the whole Microsoft/Apple thing — Do you really think Apple would ever think Live Search, which next to no one uses, is good enough to be an integral part of their OS? No. Let me repeat: No.

  • Google search isn't an 'integral part' of OS X, but of Safari. And if around 10% market share for Live Search means that 'next to no one uses' for you, than next to NO ONE uses Macs. Period
  • Okay, but the web browser nowadays is integral to every operating system, there is no way around that. I would definitely say Safari is an integral part of OS X, therefore Google Search is an integral part of the OS X user experience.

As for market share, a fair point about Macs, but we also aren't seeing some huge entity switch to all Macs in a cash deal. That would be pretty crazy as well. Also, I think you'd have a hard time finding people to argue that Live Search is better than Google in terms of the product.
