Banks are expected to look at reviving annual fees, curtailing cash-back and other rewards programs and charging interest immediately on a purchase instead of allowing a grace period of weeks, according to bank officials and trade groups.

“It will be a different business,” said Edward L. Yingling, the chief executive of the American Bankers Association, which has been lobbying Congress for more lenient legislation on behalf of the nation’s biggest banks. “Those that manage their credit well will in some degree subsidize those that have credit problems.”

There’s a word for this. That word is bullshit.

Yep... tear up the cards. I try to pay with paypal when I can since it is immediate and pay off all credit card balances on their due date. I think most people who pay off their credit cards monthly use them for a fast and easy transaction and to save writing a check and posting it. What if the credit card companies were to be paid in advance for charges. Would they then be willing to pay us to use our money if we didn't charge that month. Prepay every transaction would be another option.
  • I do not think its fair that my int.rates has doubled i have never been late even though i carry a bal.whatt happens to us with the rising rates right now? That is why people are defaulting or turning to bank ruptsy now.

Not surprising. If the 50 million (bigger number than I would have guessed) credit card holders who pay their balances off monthly decide to rip up their cards and start paying cash, the credit card companies will lose that % that merchants pay and small businesses will also notice a drop in sales. I'll be one of the first to get rid of my cards and begin paying cash. It'll be a pain in the butt but in the scheme of things, no big thing. It'll cut down those spur-of-the-moment purchases that I make that I really didn't need. In the end, the only people that will get hurt are those that can least afford it.
  • "I'll be one of the first to get rid of my cards and begin paying cash." Me too.

thats such bs. banks dont need to do that - they're doing that to retaliate against the people for asking for and supporting obama's proposed legislation.

"you better not do that, or else ill punish you by maximizing any legal means of charging you and getting my money". makes me sick
