Marco May Have Been Wrong, But I Wasn't (Yet)
Just to be clear on the App.net thing, when I said I didn’t think it would succeed, I didn’t mean in getting funded — I meant bigger picture. As I wrote:
I sincerely hope he succeeds in getting the money to build the new App.net (they’re about halfway there with five days to go) because I believe competition is always a good thing. If successful, App.net may push Twitter, Facebook, and the rest to better serve their users.
But here’s the thing: I don’t think App.net will succeed.
I realize the wording is a litte tricky since I used “succeed” or some variation a few times. But as you can tell if you read the whole post, what I meant was that I simply don’t think App.net will ultimately be successful as a service/layer.
App.net was successful in getting funded. And as I said, I’m genuinely happy about that because I think competition is good. Now we get to see if I’m right about what will happen afterwards.
