A Faster Facebook for iOS
Mick Johnson of Facebook:
Today we’re announcing an update to the Facebook app for iPhone and iPad that makes keeping up with friends faster and easier. Facebook 5.0 for iOS is twice as fast as the previous version when launching the app, scrolling through news feed and opening photos in feed.
Much better. Overall, it looks largely the same, but it offers a much faster and much more smooth experience. As expected, it brought a lot of knowledge from the Messenger and Camera apps and kicked HTML5 largely to the curb.
Two nitpicks: I wish the status update bar was persistent. It should disappear as you’re scrolling but reappear when you stop in case you want to post an update from anywhere within the feed. Also, while the iPad app has finally gained Timeline, the UI is inconsistent with the rest of the app (no update bar up top, for example). Though I guess this is true on the site itself as well.
Update: Okay, turns out you can bring back the status update bar if you scroll up quickly anywhere in the feed. Not too intuitive, but it works.
