I actually think it points to a tech press that is largely bored. Yes, the iPhone is awesome. Again. If you’re a good reporter, but not a great writer, it’s hard thing to work with. You feel like you’re writing the same thing over and over again. Because you are.
I also think this plays into the propping up of some less-than-stellar devices from rivals. We’ve been hearing about “iPhone killers” for five years now. In the end, when reality sets back in, they range from pure suckage to being just mediocre. But the press naturally wants a foil to Apple’s dominance.
