My Twitter feed is full of people bitching about the new Apple Maps in iOS6 today, plus IFTTT shutting down pushing tweets into other places because of Twitter’s new TOS. Pretty different things, but in my part of the Twittersphere, similar sense of outrage.

In recent weeks, Twitter announced policy changes that will affect how applications and users like yourself can interact with Twitter’s data. As a result of these changes, on September 27th we will be removing all Twitter Triggers, disabling your ability to push tweets to places like email, Evernote and Facebook. All Personal and Shared Recipes using a Twitter Trigger will also be removed. Recipes using Twitter Actions and your ability to post new tweets via IFTTT will continue to work just fine.
In other words, anything syndicating tweets out elsewhere will stop, but recipes for posting new tweets will still work. So it’s half bullshit, but still bullshit.

IFTTT gets a new logo, cleans up the experience, and takes its first steps into the real world.
Last week, there was a story on TechCrunch with the title: “Dropbox Automator Is Like IFTTT For Dropbox”. I had to laugh. First of all, it’s awesome that there’s already “Ifttt for X” stories. That’s usually a good sign for a young startup. Second, um, isn’t Ifttt like Ifttt for Dropbox?
The answer is yes. Yes it is. And I’m happy to announce today that CrunchFund is part of a great group of investors that have put money into Ifttt’s seed round of funding. Both TechCrunch and AllThingsD have a bit more on this.
Ifttt is one of those services that has been able to gain some good early buzz among the tech crowd despite no marketing or any kind of real outreach. And there’s a good reason for that — Ifttt fills a need that many of us have.
