Apple's condescending iPhone 4 press conference. - Slate

The fact that people aren’t returning the new iPhone doesn’t mean the problem doesn’t exist. More probably, it means that customers were waiting to see how Apple, a company known for good customer service, might respond to the problem.

So then we’re going to see those returns start flowing in any day now, right? I eagerly await those stats.

On 4.0.1

Like every other iPhone owner, I update my device to the new iOS 4.0.1 today. After some initial upgrade woes, it was up and running and like everyone else, the only new aspect I could see was the that signal bars are now taller.

But it may have done something much, much more.

I’ve had the iPhone 4 just about a week now. I’m going to post a full review on TechCrunch, hopefully tomorrow. But I wanted to jot down a couple quick things I’ve noticed about the antenna issue here.

  1. It is definitely real (at least in the phone I have).
  2. It is definitely only in the lower left corner (the right corner does nothing to degrade the signal).
  3. At first I thought it might just be that the bars were dropping but the connection was fine. But after some fairly in-depth testing today, that’s not the case. Calls will drop, data will stop.
