The Dissection Of A Vintage Mac
Want. (I have the disassembled clock print already.)
Howdy, I'm MG Siegler. I’m a general partner at Google Ventures and a columnist for TechCrunch. This is where I collect things.
Some selected works. Some haikus. Some investments. Ask away.

Haven’t tried the iOS version just yet, but absolutely love this app for the Mac. As a kid, I remember sitting in the car around the top-of-the-hour and waiting for my dad to turn on the radio for the news updates. This is that, but from a wide variety of sources (NPR, BBC, ESPN, etc) and always right there on your desktop. Brilliant idea.
Update: Yep, iOS version just as awesome.
OS X - Adjust the volume in 1/4 increments with shift+alt+volume keys.

Life changing
Yep, had no idea.
Dan Frommer:
All this in mind, it seems more likely that Mac sales will either stay flat or have started their long-term decline than they’ll ever reach, say, 10 million in a quarter.
I think Frommer is directionally correct — going forward, growth is all about tablets and smartphones, not PCs (be they Windows or Mac machines). Duh. But I actually thought Tim Cook’s explanation for the (big) decline in Mac sales was perfectly reasonable and rational — timing is everything. You cannot sell what you cannot ship.
I suspect that when Apple moves the MacBook Air to retina screens next year (and perhaps iMacs the year after that?) there will be a surge in sales again. I talk to a lot of people who use Macs and all seem to be waiting for that product. I happen to think the 13-inch retina MacBook Pro is close to the perfect MacBook, but a retina Air would rule them all.

Apple’s Macintosh PC Introduced On This Day In 1984
Newsweek January 30, 1984
This probably blew some minds back then: ”To remove an unwanted file, for example, one uses the mouse to drag an icon of a tiny file folder across the screen to an image of a garbage can; to erase the file, one uses the mouse to point to a command to “Empty Trash.”

OS 8 was beginning of the end, but boy I miss those extension icons.
Like. (this could have been my PowerMac 6100 from my freshman year of college)
I still remember OS 7 more fondly, and that’s 100% because of the Oscar the Grouch extension.
Me, back then: “I’m a PC.”
iOS and Mac app specialists Appuous created Keycard, a new Mac app that uses the Bluetooth connection on a smartphone or tablet to lock or unlock your computer the minute you step away or return to it. (via Keycard: A neat little Mac app that secures your computer by detecting the proximity of your mobile device - The Next Web)
Smart idea.
“No I wrote it on a Mac. I’ve never used a PC in my life; I don’t like them.”
Brian Eno to the BBC last year when asked if he created the Windows 95 startup sound on a PC.
It's not so odd. Those short Windows sounds were made by Brian Eno.

Indeed. And humorously enough, he wrote it on a Mac.
