Nothing says ‘fuck you, mac’ quite like ‘Quicken 2007, Lion Compatible Edition’.
— Kevin Fox (@kfury) March 9, 2012
There’s a “quick” joke in here somewhere.
Title by Horace Dediu says it all. With that in mind, the fact that OS X is becoming more iOS-like rather than the other way around should surprise absolutely no one.
Horace Dediu presents yet another amazing way to look at the rapidly evolving computer industry (here are Dediu’s other fascinating looks of the past few days).
The PC looks like a rainbow at its peak.
The Macintosh looks like a roller coaster with a misleading small first hill that tricks riders.
Android, iPhone, and iPad look like fireworks just taking off…

Once I got past the stigmas in my head of using a Mac, it was very quick — just a few weeks. Remember too that back then (2005), Mac were still using PowerPC chips, and were considerably slower than rival PCs built using Intel (and AMD) chips. That disparity no longer exists, so it would be even easier to switch now.
The wider pinned tabs, while ugly, I can deal with. This font nonsense, I cannot. If this is going to be rolling out to all of Chrome eventually, I will be switching to Safari. Or back to Camino. Ugh.
Update: From my Google+ thread on the matter:
Chromium just switched to using Skia as the rendering engine on Mac instead of Core Graphics. They don’t have sub-pixel anti-aliasing working yet, which is why it looks asstastic but they do have accelerated graphics, now. They won’t launch until there is no discernable difference with CG, though.
Phew.

Windows v. Mac at McDonald’s.

Perhaps the best representation of Windows vs. Mac that I’ve ever seen. And it comes via a McDonald’s pamphlet.
I also love that step 1 for the Mac is to turn your AirPort on. In other words, for 99% of people, the Mac setup is actually only two steps: connect, and open a web browser.

Finder now offers to search the App Store for applications capable of opening a file with an unrecognized extension.
The little things you can do when you control the entire experience.
Speaking of the Mac App Store, I see Civilization V is now available as well. Been holding off. Might not be able to now. Though $49.99 is a little steep for the store.
Also, I love the warnings to check your system specs before downloading. Shouldn’t the Mac App Store be able to do that for you? Apple needs to get on that.

Absolutely 100% worth the $9.99 price. Hands down the best RSS reader available on Mac/iOS.
Macstories has more.
Trying out Carousel, a truly beautiful way to view Instagram photos on a Mac by Mobelux.
It’s $4.99 in the Mac App Store, but work of this caliber absolutely deserves to be paid for. (You can get a 15-day trial download on their website as well.)
Ed Bott predicts a wave of “serious malware” is about to hit OS X. Why? Because as it becomes more popular, it will be the target of more attackers.
Okay fine, but didn’t someone warn us about this same thing two and a half years ago for the very same reason?
Oh yes, Ed Bott.
“Coming soon”.
