Wow, time flies. I remember seeing it in the theater and thinking it was pure magic. It was easily one of the greatest films I’ve ever seen in a theater because I was totally transported back to being a little kid and reading the books.
I also remember the rumors for years that the movie was getting made than it wasn’t getting made — with plenty saying it would be impossible to make. Not only did Peter Jackson do it, he did it better than anyone could have ever imagined. Those three films are three of the best ever made in any genre.
Can’t wait for The Hobbit.
The first Sherlock Holmes was very “meh” (as opposed to the Sherlock television show, which is excellent). But if this is true, I’ll buy a ticket just to see these two trailers back-to-back on the big screen.
Incidentally, the two stars of the Sherlock Holmes television series, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, also star in The Hobbit.
Also, don’t forget that a prologue for The Dark Knight Rises will be shown before the IMAX version of Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol. Also perhaps the only reason to see that film.
This news will make Sherlock Holmes fans (like myself) very, very happy. Watson (Martin Freeman) is Bilbo, Sherlock is Smaug.
Oh and one more thing: Cumberbatch is apparently also providing the voice of the Necromancer — aka, Sauron.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits December 14, 2012.
The Hobbit: There and Back Again hits December 13, 2013.

I’m so happy that Peter Jackson is back making these next films.
As he notes towards the end, he didn’t always think it would be a good idea to revisit the world to try and recapture what they did the first time around. But now he’s all-in.

As The Hobbit begins full production, Peter Jackson begins pushing updates to his Facebook Page.
The time when the project was in limbo seem far behind us now.
